I have, indeed, been sick. Not awfully so. Just seemingly endlessly so.
I took the endless low-grade fever (3 weeks now and counting) and the obsessive form of the villanelle proposed in Poetry Thursday a while back and put this together. It's a bit forced, but that roughness somehow fits with the lack of smoothness my mind has right now due to the everlasting (insert expletive here) cold.
[And yes, I'm going to the doctor's office (again) this morning in hopes they can do something.]
Low-Grade Fever
Treating symptoms hasn’t helped me mend.
I’m tired and I have too much to do.
My low-grade fever never seems to end.
I’m tired from each effort I expend.
My tasks wait in an ever-longer queue.
Treating symptoms hasn’t helped me mend.
I have a stack of bills I need to send.
(I hate to think that they are overdue.)
My low-grade fever never seems to end.
I go to work and try to apprehend
The topics of the meetings I sit through,
But treating symptoms hasn’t helped me mend.
To sit at home and nap, oh God forfend!
I only fret and fuss and carp and stew.
My low-grade fever never seems to end.
My sad malaise seems ever to extend.
Some nasty germs achieved a brilliant coup.
Treating symptoms hasn’t helped me mend.
My low-grade fever never seems to end.

yes the villanelle is the perfect form here! Hope you're feeling better soon.
Your fever did make a great villanelle! I know it sounds trite but I tend to see the positive aspect of each experience!
I admire your energy (and accomplishment) in taunting your fever with this form. (I had written one myself when the prompt was presented--and it is not easy!)
OK.. I felt like this for two week solid in May... I can sympathize. Thanks for sharing your verse and I hope you do feel better soon!!!
You have my sympathy! I had that back around Easter-time. The villanelle is such a good form for this. - something seems to be said, and then back it comes again, a little bit different, but the same thing. Clever!
I really hope it clears up, but I found there was nothing for it but to stay home and rest a few days.
I am intrigued, as I am by all illnesses that don't respond to treatment.
You might want to have your md do a blood test for anemia or fibromyalgia.
Get well soon.....
Thanks to all of you for your best wishes.
The good news is that I'm back to my healthy (albeit still overweight) self. Fever is gone. Blood tests were normal except for a low B12 level.
Yea!! Now maybe I can start enjoying summer.
