[Tricia at The Miss Rumphius Effect gave us the following challenge for the Monday Poetry Stretch this week:
write a personal ad about your favorite animal or historical figure
So here's what I came up with. Check out the links afterward if you can't figure it out (or if you just want to see some cool pics!]

looking, i am,
for just the right guy,
with colors like mine,
and who really can fly.

i hang by the lake
but would move to the marsh
if the right guy would ask
and be mellow, not harsh.

i surf on the breeze
and i'll give you a clue
how to find me up there:
i'm a shocking-bright blue.

a stick for a figure,
i'm perfect, you know
but i'm missing a mate.
life is too short, you know.

so find me and show off,
i like a good dance,
you know that you're lonely
now come take a chance!

I was thinking heron until I looked at your pictures. Great poem! I'm so glad you played. I've missed your visits.

Thanks, Tricia. I'm visiting even when I'm not posting. Major work project is over after next Monday (and I'm hoping that means more time for poetry and other enjoyable activities).

You make it seem so easy, I really battled with this one. Enjoyed trying to guess, had to peek though.

Thanks, Jacqueline.

Loved this riddle poem! I actually thought it was a kite and was hoping the wind would reply to the ad:>) But then I looked at the photos!

Thanks for sharing!

Hello, Laura. I can see (now) where you found the kite in there. I love how people saw so many different things. But probably good for me that I'm not trying to make real matches this way!
