Last Day

[Tricia at the Miss Rumphius Effect put forth this week's Monday Poetry Stretch to write about the end of school or summer vacation. This took me back.]

Last Day

There is no learning today, just lessons on
as teachers try to
their classes, as students try to
themselves. As the whole school vibrates with
excitement I wonder how long the water will stay
inside the full-to-bursting balloons.

Love this! I only taught a couple of years, but I remember the bittersweet bursting of the last day of school. Terrific repetition helps build it up, too! Thanks for sharing.
