Bats

[Tricia at The Miss Rumphius Effect set a Monday Poetry Stretch to write batty poetry. As in real bats. Here's mine. Check her site at the end of the week to see what others might have come up with.]

Bats

In the darker, shallow end of the pool we
lounged in summer-heated liquid and watched
insects swarm around the lights at the deep end.

Bats darted and wheeled, flying bug zappers,
sometimes dipping low enough to sip
a chlorinated nightcap to chase their midnight snacks.

Bats and bugs feature heavily in my day to day observations.

Thanks, Sue. It was a little spooky the first time I saw it, but after that it was just cool.

Hi, Stan. They are well-worth watching.

Hello, Andy. Thanks.

Thanks, Gautami. They are quite interesting and I can't say I like them up-close-and-personal, but I appreciate their place in the ecosystem (eating bugs like mosquitoes is a good thing).
