[OK, I guess I had another tree poem in me tonight. This one just shook itself loose. See more at Read Write Poem.]
One Night Only
There was one time,
when the monarch butterflies
stopped for the night
en route to Mexico
and made it look
as though my pretty,
green leaves were dead.

I would love to see the monarchs migration, must be a spectacular sight.
I only saw them at rest, but it was a pretty amazing thing!
For such a short verse, it contains a great image!
numbing nirvana
Thanks, Gautami. I liked the feeling of a throw-away comment in the course of an (inplied) much longer conversation.
Oh, that ending kind of surprised me. I was expecting something like flame but was pleasantly surprised by this image! Excellent!
Linda - when the butterflies are in flight you get the flashes of orange, but at rest, their wings are folded and only the dull side shows. When the cover a tree, the green leaves are concealed behind all the dull orange. And the next morning they all leave and it is like it never happened!
I am so glad this was in you. Terrific suprise, and vivid.
Thanks, ...deb
