Sitting Pretty

[At The Miss Rumphius Effect, Tricia's Monday Poetry Stretch is to write a mask poem, in which the subject is the speaker. I sat quietly and this is what I heard.]

No Longer in the Catbird Seat

I remember when I was your favorite.
You picked me out at the store,
making sure that my fabric would
not clash with the rug.
I had pride-of-place in the living room.

But now I sit with my back to the window,
off to the side, at the end of the room,
and I watch you sit on the new
leather loveseat,
your new favorite.

Hi sister AE! I love the perspective in this -- it really brings the chair to life with deeply heartfelt feelings. I felt sad for the old chair and wanted to give it a hug! Well done. I awarded you with the "I Can Go For That!" award. See my March 2 post for details.

I love the perspective, too. You capture the experience of a lot of furniture--and dare I say friends--in this one.

Thanks for stopping by. God bless.

Oh dear, this poem could make me feel guilty for putting my faithful old (OLD) sofa out in the trash last year...
