[Totally Optional Prompts this week asks us "Why You're Alive" and this, I suppose, is part of the answer.]
Stubborn
Stubborn as an untreated red wine stain
on a white cotton shirt,
baked in over time,
fated to stand out
no matter the occasional desire to blend in,
changing the very purpose of the shirt
from a proper buttoned-up affair
to a casual, ok-to-get-messy-in favorite,
a presence that transforms,
altering perceptions that echo,
rippling out into the world.

Oh my gosh, this is just perfect.
Grip and hold, stubborn is the poem. Wonderfully crafted.
Stubborn, that's a good answer to the question posed. And poetically put to boot!
Thanks, Marcia. I'm glad you think so.
Hello, UL, and thanks.
Hi, STG - I get my stubborn from both sides of the family - a double-dipping as it were, so this answer was inevitable.
What an effective simile! Your last two lines are gorgeous!
Thanks, Linda.
Perfect. Altering perceptions that echo - love that phrase and the provocative challenge.
Hello, tumblewords, and thanks.
I feel exactly like that stain sometimes.
